Hi. I’m attempting to transfer a domain, knotbin.xyz, to Cloudflare and would like to know how to approve the transfer manually so the domain can be transferred without the 4-5 day wait period to avoid downtime. I don’t see any dialog to do this and when I go to the “Transfer Out” section, all I see is the auth code.
My domain has been registered with Vercel for more than 60 days and is eligible to transfer, so that is not an issue.
Thanks for reaching out, @knotbin! Transfers normally happen automatically after the 4-5 day waiting period, and there’s not typically any downtime if you set the same DNS records with both registrars.
I did find the pending transfer status for your domain. I’ve gone ahead and manually approved the transfer for you, so it should complete fairly quickly now. Please let me know if you have any trouble with it.
Thank you so much @amyegan. I don’t know if this is the right place to give feedback but I wish I was able to do this myself on the dashboard. One of the reasons I’m switching to Cloudflare is to get more manual control.
This is absolutely the right place to share feedback. Thank you for letting us know about your experience! I’ve sent a link to this conversation to our domains team to make sure they see it.
Hello! Thank you so much for reaching out and providing us feedback. As a member of the product team, I’m keen to learn more about the manual control capabilities you’re expecting for Domains. If it is easier, happy to jump on a call.
Hi! The main reason I switched from Vercel Domains to Cloudflare was the lack of support for DNSSEC, but I doubt there are a whole lot of people for which that’s a dealbreaker. The thing I think should definitely be worked on is the experience of transferring domain out of Vercel. I completely understand that this doesn’t bring in any revenue so it’s not worked on a lot but I think maintaining a good customer experience during the transfer out process helps for getting those customers back in the future and generally maintaining a good brand image.
The main issues are that the only way to reload authentication codes or confirm a transfer is through these public forums (free plans aren’t allowed to use Vercel Support) which is not a sustainable long-term solution and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
