Can't add wildcard domain after it was in use by another account

I wanted to add *.domain.com to my project and got error it was on someone else account. I added a CNAME record to that domain to verify its mine. Now it’s not saying it is added to someone else account but trying to enable Vercel DNS for that domain gives me error "*.domain.com" does not exist.. Trying to remove the domain entirely and add it again doesn’t help.

Yes, I was asked to do that. I put required TXT record on the old DNS provider and went to the next step where I have problem I described in the original post.
